Drinking fountains: The cold, the clean and the crappy

Finding Fanshawe's best source of free water

Being students and paying ridiculously high tuition fees, means we all have really tight budgets nowadays. However, there is one thing we can all save money on; WATER.

With bottled water now retailing for higher prices than gasoline, it is an unnecessary expense we can easily eliminate. Most people are under the impression that bottled water is cleaner and healthier for you, however, most bottled water comes from the same source as tap water and there is widespread speculation that toxic chemicals from the plastic bottles leach into the water and end up in our bodies.

It is also important to note that there are less health regulations governing the cleanliness of bottled water than there is for municipal water. So all around, this makes tap water your best bet, both for your health and your wallet.

On campus we are lucky to have some of the cleanest and coldest drinking fountains in town. Whenever you get thirsty I suggest a free drink at the following fountains.

H Building Second Floor
The best-tasting and most reliable drinking fountain on campus can be found in front of the elevator in H building on the second floor. This stainless steel fountain shoots H2O at a high pressure, is kept very clean and is always ice cold. 10/10

Library First Floor
Your second best bet is inside the library. Stop in for a drink next time your signing out a book, doing research, or studying. This drinking fountain is kept very clean, has great pressure and is consistently cold. 9.5/10

SUB Building, First Floor
This drinking fountain, located next to the Falcon's Nest may look unappealing, but it usually has decent pressure and is considerably colder than most other drinking fountains on campus. Still, if you are not in a rush, the Library is much better and right around the corner. 8/10

J Gym
Sadly, some of the worst drinking fountains are where they are needed most; in the gym! The drinking fountains in J Building are usually clean but have low pressure and the water is usually room temperature. Still better quality H2O than Dasani though so if you need to keep hydrated it's still your best bet. Hopefully the quality of these fountains will be improved soon. 6/10

Although tuition fees are through the roof and education is becoming inaccessible without a debt sentence, water is still free. See you at the drinking fountains!
