SAC wants you to contact Ombud

SAC meeting number seven revealed some great news: Fanshawe students now have a dental plan! Council members were very pleased and excited about the results of the dental referendum. There were 4361 voters, 3947 of which voted for the plan. Congratulations on a great voter turnout. Fanshawe students can now look forward to having dental coverage, beginning September 2007.

As usual, there are several fun events happening this week, both around London and around campus. The 25th Annual CD and Record Show will take place this Sunday, February 11 at Centennial Hall. It will be open from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., and it will cost $4 to get in. Some on-campus events include Drinks With A. Dick, Kick Ass Country Pub and Sex Toy Bingo…a perfect event to attend with Valentine's Day just around the corner. Check out the FSU bulletin boards around campus for more details.

Many students have been contacting their SAC representatives about issues related to courses and teachers. Although they are happy to help whenever they can, SAC members are also trying to increase student awareness of the Ombudsperson. The purpose of the Ombuds office is the following, which was taken directly from the Ombuds Office website: “Established in 1993, the mandate of the Ombuds Office is to receive, investigate and seek to resolve complaints from students and employees related to all areas of operation of the college. The office is funded by the Fanshawe Student Union and Fanshawe College and is overseen by an advisory committee comprised of students, staff, faculty and administrators.”

Ian Darling is the ombudsperson at Fanshawe, and all of the information you need to contact him may be found at http://www.fanshawec.on.ca/ombuds/default.asp. Don't hesitate to use this free service…after all; it is partially funded by students.

During the Consent Items portion of the meeting, a new club, “Academics For Choice” was approved. The club is described as a “Pro-choice balance to anti-choice that already exists.” For more information about this club and other clubs on campus, visit the FSU website and click on the clubs link.

The next SAC meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 20.
