Beauty Boy: Voluptuous Valentine's Day

This Valentine's Day, make a bold statement with your makeup and put your loved one in complete awe. Make your Valentine's Day look all about the drama; the more dramatic, the better (and by dramatic I don't mean drag queenstyle, over-the-top makeup). Even if you don't like wearing a lot of makeup, you can still emphasize your face's most beautiful features with very little product. This year, have your look revolve around your cheeks, lips and contoured and highlighted complexion.

Starting with the complexion, use a primer that will prevent your foundation from flaking and that will help it last throughout your whole romantic evening. Then use a foundation that has a higher coverage than you would normally wear on a day-to-day basis — this way, any imperfections will be completely covered and your skin will appear flawless. Dermablend, Cover FX or even Revlon Colorstay are perfect for achieving that flawless complexion. Once you have applied and set your foundation with a powder, it is time to start accentuating the face's natural features.

Taking the Smashbox Contouring and Highlighting kit (or any other product that has a good contouring powder), begin to contour the face with a fairly small and dense brush (sides of the nose, jawline and hollows of the cheeks). This will begin to shape the face and make the cheekbones more defined. Then, taking Benefit's Hervana blush, start to dust it onto the apples of the cheeks and then blend outwards. This multicoloured blush is perfect for making the cheeks really "pop" and gives an innocent yet romantic look. After you have the blush blended out, take a liquid highlighter (Benefit's High Beam, Moon Beam and Sun Beam) and dab a little bit on the top of the cheekbones. After all of this is applied and blended, your cheeks will look perfectly sculpted and will become the focal point of your makeup look.

Next, you want to focus on dramatizing the lips. Start with a lip primer (yes, they do exist), either one by Guerlain or Gosh, so that your lip colour doesn't crease and won't rub off after that first romantic Valentine's Day kiss. Now you are going to need to pick a lip colour that is dramatic, but still looks pretty (reds and pinks are best for this occasion). Outline the lips with a lip liner and blend it in towards the centre of the lips — this will prevent the lipstick from bleeding and will add some more colour. Then taking the lipstick colour of your choice, completely cover the lips; use a lip brush so you can colour the Cupid's bow area perfectly without getting the lipstick on your skin.

After you have all of that completed, apply some lighter eye shadows and mascara to complete your look. Make sure the eye makeup is not too dark because you don't want it to take away from your beautiful complexion and voluptuous lips.

This Valentine's Day, take the attention off the eye makeup and put it towards the lips and cheeks. Remember, being dramatic is not a bad thing; if you follow everything stated in this article, your special someone will not be able to take his or her eyes off of you. Now flaunt those cheekbones and pout those lips!
