The Fanshawe Falcons women's basketball team had a season of ups and downs this year.

The ladies started off the season on fire, winning their first two games. The Falcons' hot streak cooled down during the stretch run of the season as they headed into the Christmas break with a record of three wins and four losses.

The team looked poised to finish outside the playoffs, but forward Natasha Amo remained positive. "We are not out of it yet." The ladies proved that by playing more of a team game in the second half of the season.

The team went into their final game with a chance to move up in the standings, and played against the undefeated Sheridan Bruins on February 22. The loss the ladies suffered had them going into the playoffs losing two straight games against tough teams. The ladies played Georgian on February 26 in the play-in games and loss brought an end to their remarkable season.

With a team of an even split of rookies and veterans, head coach Matt White had his work cut out for him. The coach knew going into the season that it wasn't going to be easy because a couple of their starters were playing college basketball for the first time. He did, however, have a great leader in Kaitlind Dutrizac.

Dutrizac was in her fourth year of eligibility, and helped mentor the younger players. She was a vocal force on the floor and during practices did not hesitate to help the new players. She said she is very impressed with the basketball team going forward, and thinks they will be able to be a real powerhouse in the years to come.

Returning players Tina Teng and Phyna Lim will be dynamic forces on the team in the next couple of years, as well as the rest of the returning players.
