Local Business Profile: More than laundry

When you think of a laundromat what usually comes to mind is probably the smell of dryer sheets and detergent wafting through the air, along with well-leafed through magazines. But one thing you probably don't think of is having a beer or surfing the net while you are washing and drying your clothes. At the Laundry Café at Oxford and Adelaide you can do this and more, in a laundromat that is more than just a place to wash your clothes.

Whatever you need to wash and fold your clothes, they've got it. From just $1.75 per wash and dry, or one quarter every 10 minutes, they'll even wash and dry it for you for only 95¢ per pound. Along with bags for 50¢, fabric softener, bleach and soap for 80¢ and dryer sheets and hangers from 25¢ if you happen to forget your supplies at home. Professional alterations are also done on site and range from $5 a hem to $9.50 for zipper pants and $18 for a zipper jacket. The only thing the café doesn't do is dry cleaning of any kind.

While you are waiting how about enjoying surfing the Internet on free wireless or grab a drink, a submarine sandwich or an “overloaded” bagel. They range in price from $2.30 to $5. According to manager of the café, Mayoan Ly, in addition to food and drink you can also expect quick service when it comes to whatever you need them to do for you.

“Wash and fold they can drop off and pick-up the same day,” said Ly.

With around 100 machines for both wash and drying, along with commercial size ones, there is plenty of selection to ensure that you can get in and out in a timely manner. The Laundry Café is located on Oxford, just west of Adelaide and is open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weeknights, and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays.
