Letter to the editor: Parent irked

Dear Editor:

As a mother of a three year old, attending all my classes, meeting all my deadlines and holding an important position on a club at Fanshawe. I read a letter to Love Lola in the February 1, issue 20 Interrobang bashing parents that are trying to attend school.

This person went on to complain about their attendance, special treatment and lack of overall committment they believed parents who are students seem to possess. I really wanted to write a letter stating that most students without any kind of outside activities don't make class, don't make deadlines, chat disruptively throughout class and are given chance after chance to change their behaviour with little or no improvements. However I don't have the time to monitor what everyone else is doing.

I do know I have never been given an extended deadline, I am not a perfect student, my GPA will never be a 4.0, but I am in class everyday, participating, problem solving and making an impact.

Single parents are not the problem. It is the diversity of the student population. Whether you have children or not, it is your internal motivation that will get you to your graduation date, not the classmates around you, or the external situation each student faces.

This person must realize from the sarcastic response from the advice columist that they were being inconsiderate and insensitve. However, I wanted to mention don't attack a statistic because you are having an issue with one or two parents in your program. What could you be doing? As a student four weeks into term, how do you have enough time to pay attention to everyone else's situation? Join a club or something, stop bashing people who are trying to help the economy and lessen your tax contributions by staying off system.
