Fedor Emelianenko has staked his claim as the top fighter in the heavyweight division, and perhaps as the best fighter in the world.

The rejuvinated Strikeforce promotion made its debut on CBS this past week, and headlining the card was none other then the “Last Emperor,” Emelianenko who took on up-and-coming challenger Brett Rogers. Emelianenko disposed of Rogers in the second round with some vicious punches, but it wasn't actually that easy.

Coming into this fight you were either an Emelianenko lover or an Emelianenko hater. Some think he's a fat lucky putz that hasn't fought anyone good in the last couple of years. Meanwhile, some still love the man as if he's the greatest of all time. With this fight, it certainly didn't put that argument to rest, but for this fight fan it's sure answered a lot of questions.

Adversity is one of the toughest things to overcome in any situation, and especially when it comes to a fight. If you've in a vulnerable position, it really takes a strong- willed fighter to get out of that and claim victory. Yet again, Emelianenko has done this. Rogers had Emelianenko in some trouble on the ground in this fight. He was working the ground and pound and for a brief period of time and I was convinced the fight was going to be stopped, only to have Emelianenko recover, regroup, and win. This is what reveals a real champion.

It's not the first time we've seen Emelianenko do this. Think back to his recent fight with Andrei Arlovski, he was being picked apart by the superior boxing ability of Arlovski, only to duck a punch, pick a spot, and put the former UFC champion to sleep. If you want another example, check out his fight with Kevin Randleman. Emelianenko was dropped on his head, a toss that looked like it would paralyze a man, yet, Emelianenko recovers and puts the much bigger Randleman in an armbar.

We could go on and on with Emelianenko's accomplishments, but the biggest factor to me which makes him so amazing is that he continues to do this fight after fight, time after time. He changes his game plan as the fight goes on, and ends up the victor every single time.

I don't want you to get the wrong idea though, I do think that Emelianenko is beatable, and the person who would most likely do that would be Brock Lesnar. There is no doubt that the biggest fight in the world right now would see Lesnar fight Emelianenko. This is a tough fight to call but if there is a guy to do the job and give Emelianenko his first loss it's the burley current UFC champ. Unfortunately, this may be a fight we never get to see with Emelianenko and the UFC unable to come to an agreement on where they would eat lunch, let alone a fight contract.

Emelianenko makes a claim as being the best fighter of all time, and rightfully so, each passing fight he proves it and until the day he loses, there is no way that you can ever rank any other fighter above him.
