Hot or Not: Money saving tips

Hot

Carpooling
If there isn't a need for you to drive, then don't. Try contacting classmates or co-workers, and plan to alternately pick each other up, and head to your destination together. You are all going to the same place, so save some gas and money doing it!

Yard sale
Do you know those old or never worn clothes in the back of your closet, or those old textbooks that are sitting there getting Dusty? Yea those! Time to get rid of them don't cha think? Set up a yard sale in front of your house, it will be a fast and easy way to make a greatly needed buck.

Coupon galore!
Yes people do this, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. If you are planning on going grocery shopping, or just going to pick a few things from the mall, look through the newspaper and see if there's any possibility of saving money on a purchase.

Side hustle
A side hustle is something that you do mostly in your spare time to put more money in your pocket. It can be something as clever as typing your classmates essays for a small price. Or, if you have a small talent, like making clothes, why not spread the word and make a few bucks off of it?

Not

Unnecessary Spending
Buying things that you definitely don't need can be a problem, especially if you know that you can't afford it. Try focussing on your needs instead of wants, it will be difficult, but trust me; you'll appreciate it in the long run.

Credit cards
My advice, particularly to students, is to STAY AWAY FROM THEM! But, for the people who already have them, or are about to get one, please don't rely on them. Only spend what you are absolutely able to pay back. They will land you in debt very quickly, so keep a close eye.

Borrowing
I'm not saying that you shouldn't do it if you have to; all I'm saying is be careful when you do it. The only way you should borrow money from someone is if you actually know how you are going to pay them back. If you're not able to pay them back, they'll never let you borrow from them again, or even worse, they'll probably never talk to you again.

Kick the stress
This one's a tough one, but the less stress you have about money, the easier it will be to manage it.
