New FSU VPs elected

FSU by-election results came in last week with no real surprises. Almost no one voted.

With Fanshawe's full-time student body, as indicated by the Office of the Registrar, nearly 18,000 students walk the Falcon halls everyday.

With voter turnout at less then at only 820 for the FSU VP candidates, one wonders what needs to be done to get student's to care about their Student Government.

But in view of the recent Federal election, which boasted the lowest voter turn out in Canadian history, most can see the “not caring trend,” which is strange, considering everything we have to care about. Economics, the environment, gas prices and our hopes for the future.

Rob McGarry, currently taking TV news as post-grad program, who campaigned hard for his position, was Elected VP Internal in the FSU by-election last week, said it's hard to deal with immature voters either on or off campus. As he faced many of his signs defaced or removed.

“I ran as best of a campaign as I could,” McGarry said. “My victory was well deserved, as I had bided for this position on the FSU twice. My hopes for the future include being a successful representative of the student body that elected me.”

Nick Austin, was voted in as this year's VP Financial, also ran a successful campaign on campus. Offering proper signage and communication with students.

“Most students just don't give a crap, they don't know how, and who is in power can effect them. They (who don't vote) get what they deserve,” said Alex, a Fanshawe student taking pre-health, voted in both FSU and Federal elections.
