The York Federation of Students launched their anti-tuition hike campaign with a bang this past Wednesday, September 10 by inviting all York students and the student community at large to ‘Rise Up, Resist, Retaliate', a massive free concert featuring rap superstar Talib Kweli.

After feeding thousands of starving students with a free BBQ, York Federation of Students organized shuttle buses to transport students and their friends from York University to Toronto's Downsview Park, where over a thousand people gathered to hear Talib Kweli rock the mic. with his brand of conscious hip-hop.

The purpose of the event was to draw attention to the ever-increasing tuition fees being squeezed out of students, which continue to make post-secondary education inaccessible to people from lower-income families, and those who do not wish to go heavily into debt by borrowing money to go to school.

Before the show started, Nila Zameni, the V.P. of Campus Life for the YFS urged the crowd to take action against the school for continuing to raise their tuition fees and had the entire crowd chanting “Rise Up, Resist, Retaliate”.
