Guys are ‘best dressed' on Halloween

That's right ladies; there is no mistake in this headline. Guys are the best dressed on Halloween. I am sure girls have put together well thought-out Halloween costumes in the past, but probably only when they were under the age of 16. It is obvious year after year, the nerve and personality some males put into Halloween costumes make them win, hands down! I am positive we'll be seeing a lot of Britney Spears look-a-likes this Halloween, and don't get me wrong that is scary, but it's a weak idea.

First of all I cannot give you really any fashion tips or tell you what to wear or not wear, because I guess that would take the fun out of Halloween. You could get your Halloween inspiration from Haute Couture fashions, from designers like Christian Dior or Jean Paul Gaultier. Haute Couture means high, over-the-top fashion, displayed with class. I think girls would look awesome if they stuck to a theme like that. Go to M.A.C Cosmetics and bring a picture from the Couture designer's shows, get really dramatic make-up and it will immediately look dressed up. Check out www.style.com.

From creeping on my friend's, and friends of friends of friend's Facebook photo albums, you come to the Halloween party albums and get to see it all. From the house parties and bar pictures, you see guys in head-to-toe costumes of everything from a police officer to a guy sporting a giant diaper and bonnet. I have seen pictures of a guys dressed up as a hockey player (a team he didn't play for), Jack Sparrow, a Telebubbie, beer keg, a woman, Batman, prison mate (with handcuffs and everything), lumberjack, I could go on forever.

A great place to look for ideas and supplies is That Party Place (Southdale and Wharncliffe, as well as Fanshawe Park Road across the street from Masonville Place). I bought a foam head for a school project, which would make a great decoration in your home. That Party Place is packed with Halloween costumes, but they have stuff for parties all year round or even a college student's home decor. They had cool sunglasses blinged-out with dollar signs, as well as a huge entire face covering, a-la Nicole Richie, shades that would help out many costumes. They also carry different kinds of hats, wigs, banners, accessories and an impressive amount of cups and plates, all in every colour.

Why, you may ask, are guys better dressed? It's hard to pin-down, but I think it comes down to creativity and a sense of humour. Ladies, maybe you should ask yourself, “Would Britney Spears wear this?” while you are putting on your nurse costume. If the answer to that question is, “Yes,” maybe you should step up your game.
