Palentine's Day is a new holiday devoted devoted to hanging with your buddies and having a good time.

So it's Valentine's Day, and you find yourself without one of those girlfriends you've heard so much about. It's not a big deal though, because there is a new holiday on Feb. 14, one devoted to hanging with your buddies and having a good time. It's Palentine's Day.

How does one celebrate Palentine's Day you may ask? Firstly, and the only absolute necessity, you need some pals. One will do, but the day is better celebrated as part of a group. After that, the night is open to whatever you and your buddies feel like getting up to. There really are limitless options that you can take.

Palentine's night out

Don't want to stay inside? Move your Palentine's celebrations out on the town for a few pints with your friends. Find a pub quiz night and put your combined knowledge of obscure trivia to use for a prize. Hit up a pub with a live band playing, find the best whisky in town or simply sit down and enjoy the company of some friends. For some extra co-ordination, pull a Barney Stinson and toss on some suits to hit the town in style. For those who don't feel like spending their night on the town sitting around a table, grab your mates and hit up a club with a dance floor and a good DJ. Head to the bar, grab some drinks and wingman your friends, because the clubs will be full, and out there will be some ladies in the same boat as you (Galentine's Day?) that just might like what they see. If you really want to pull a peacocking move, pool your resources, grab yourself a booth and a couple bottles and find yourself someone to join you on the couch for some… conversation.

Custom Palentine's

These are just ideas; you and your buddies know what you guys like to do when you hang out, and this is honestly just another excuse to do that. Go snowboarding, play some winter football or just sit around, drink and hang out. That's the beauty of Palentine's Day, you don't even need the excuse to celebrate it.

Gamer edition

Canadian winters kind of suck and there's a pretty strong chance that you're going to want to keep your celebrations indoors. Why not mold your evening around that most classic of buddy pastimes: trying to beat each other at some video games.

Put a case of beer on ice, grab some controllers and pop in your competitive title of choice. Palentine's classics include Super Smash Bros, Mortal Kombat and any number of racing and sports games for the fans in your group. If you wish to raise the stakes, toss in a terrible wager for the loser in order to maximize involvement. I can guarantee none of your buddies wants to shave off his lovingly grown beard.

A gamer's Palentine's isn't limited to video games either. Set up a poker night, bust out a co-op board game or irreparably damage your friendships in a game of Monopoly.
