What, Me Worry?: Loose Change, the Holocaust and the War on Terror

Over 1 million people were murdered in Auschwitz during the holocaust by the democratically elected Nazi party in World War II. Do you suppose on the 5th anniversary of the camp's liberation, on January 28th 1945, we should have circumvented those theories that suggested that there was in fact a holocaust?

Of course not, so why is it that on the fifth anniversary of September 11th we find it disrespectful to the dead to play a documentary like Loose Change in the common areas of a so-called educational learning facility? Yes, unfortunately some students are of this opinion. I sigh and shake my head; I'm beginning to sound like a bloody broken record I muse. Don't you want answers?

I understand that people have a difficult time accepting that all is not as it seems; we are only human after all and humans are the type of sad ignorant species that not only allowed the holocaust to happen, but would probably have continued to ignore it's significance had the Nazis won the war without upsetting the interests of an imperialist nation like Britain.

Gasp! Listen to this bastard you say, who does he think he is? He doesn't know me; I would never have allowed the holocaust to transpire. I do know you though; you're the public, the masses, and the advocates of realpolitik. You sat idle while a million innocent Tutsis were slaughtered in the Rwandan Genocide in 1994, and you continue to play in the sandbox, with your big doe eyes, soiling your diaper and blaming the rash on God in heaven, while the same thing is happening right now in the Darfur region of Sudan. So very, very far away and full of like, Africans.

Getting back to the documentary - let me make this clear, Loose Change has plenty of weak arguments and holes so big you could fit a Boeing 767 through. However, the underlying theme is solid, and as a critical thinker you should be able to draw from it only the facts, not the assumptions. We can't be expected to swallow the “official report” commissioned by the Bush administration created to rally support for bloody foreign policy and the pursuit of profit. A commission that is eerily reminiscent of the Widgery Tribunal that followed the murders of 14 innocent people by British paramilitaries on the day that became known as Bloody Sunday in Ireland. The Widgery report has long been considered a partisan whitewash resulting in no charges being laid on the soldiers.

Those of you, who are critical thinkers, should by now understand that in the very least: ignoring the opulence of information predicting a forthcoming attack of this kind was very profitable for America's economy. Drawing on the country's obsession with patriotism without question, The U.S marched off to war with the perfect enemy: someone who was no threat, with no country and no physical presence - a phantom. Naturally, Canada follows diligently like a proud younger brother, whistling, cork gun in hand like some sort of twisted Norman Rockwell ideal.

War is profitable - America needed a war! How many times do you have to hear this? This isn't liberal propaganda; it's simply the cold-hard facts, no buffer, and no sugarcoating. Unfortunately citizens don't like hearing the facts about subjects like global warming and their own corrupt governments. They prefer to be kept distracted with bad sitcoms and worse beer. Right-wing knee jerk exclamations like, “America hater” and even worse…“Liberal” are considered to be logic replacing retaliations to solid arguments concerning the North American invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq. When will we wake up and smell the burning flesh of the innocents?

On October 28th, major cities all across Canada will be hosting events to protest our involvement in Afghanistan. It is your right to elect a government that puts the monetary interests of certain politicians, before the lives of innocent people since a lack of education and/or logical thought process isn't necessarily your fault. However, it is your responsibility to keep these same governments in line. You don't have to support your troops to be patriotic, but get involved and find out what all the hullabaloo is about.
