Awesome students prepare for pitch night

The night we've all been waiting for has finally arrived. November 27 is when four students will pitch their awesome ideas for improving the Fanshawe community in the hopes of taking home the $1,000 grant to bring their idea to life.

Presented by the Fanshawe Student Union in partnership with the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business and the Alumni Association, the first ever Awesome Fanshawe Students event received dozens of applications. Seven trustees were tasked with choosing the top four ideas, and have selected Zelda Brown, Heather Bailey, Cassie Smith and Eric Edwards to present their six-minute pitches on November 27.

“This has been an excellent way to get the student body thinking about and actively participating in improving our Fanshawe community,” said John Young, the FSU's operations manager, who is helping to organize the event. “We're so excited about the partnership with LKSB and Alumni Association — it's been great.”

Mary Pierce, an Awesome Fanshawe Students trustee from the Lawrence Kinlin School of Business, is looking for an idea that is unique but doable. “It has to be creative, but it also has to have some level of practicality and executibility. A lot of proposals you see, the idea is really cool, but the person has no real thought on how they would actually do this. There's not a lot of point in giving money to something that the person doesn't really have a good chance of seeing it through and actually making it happen.”

AFS pitch night starts at 7 p.m. in SC2016 on November 27. All are welcome to attend.
