As the days shorten and the leaves begin to turn their autumn colours, you might begin to notice another change that has nothing to do with the seasons. In fact, this change seems to happen to the majority of students returning to college every year. What is this reoccurring headache? Weight gain due to poor college diets and inactive lifestyles.

But before you head out to purchase a $200-plus gym membership at a facility a trek away, consider this: there is a facility fully equipped to keep you in shape located right on campus.

Fanshawe's Fitness 101 Community Fitness Centre has you covered from triceps to calves. With a fully equipped facility, swimming pool, personal trainers, and a group exercise schedule packed with exciting classes (including boot camp, TRX Circuit, Zumba and yoga just to name a few), you'll never experience a dull moment.

Found in J Building between the Student Centre and the Student Union Building (SUB), Fitness 101 is the perfect option for students constantly on the go. With student memberships priced at only $151.88 (including tax) per semester or $5.50 for a day pass, its services offered fit the bill.

Darrell Evans, a Broadcast Journalism — Television News post-graduate student at Fanshawe agreed that the convenience of the facility for Fanshawe students is one of its strongest selling points.

“I chose this program specifically because the location of the gym would allow me to go before and after class without having to make a trip to more than one location,” Evans said. “I gained some weight over the summer and began to realize that I have to start living a healthier lifestyle if I want to remain [fit] and that starts with working out more often.” Students who purchase a membership will also receive a free fitness consultation from Fitness 101 staff. But if you'd like more one-on- one training with your membership, then their personal training program (starting at $22/hour) is an additional route you could take.

“The staff at Fitness 101 are all CSEP-CPT certified,” said Sarah Bolt, an employee at Fitness 101. “That means you'll get the certified training you need from a trainer who knows what they're doing.”

For those of you feeling the pain from your muscle gain, don't sweat it! Fitness 101's registered massage therapist Lisa Demelo is ready to knead you back to health with sessions starting at only $35.75.

Fitness 101 is open from Monday to Friday 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and so there's no excuse for missing a gym day.
