It's the dog days of summer, and Progressive Animal Welfare Services (PAWS) is celebrating!

They are holding their Dog Days of Summer charity event at Labatt Park on July 6, and attendees are encouraged to bring their family and friends, especially the furry ones. At the event, the London Majors baseball team will go up to bat against the Barrie Baycats.

PAWS is partnering with the North Carolina-based Humane Alliance to build a non-profit Companion Animal Hospital and Shelter that will aid the pets of people in need, such as women in abusive environments, the homeless, and those suffering from mental health disorders. It will also provide temporary shelter, emergency veterinarian care, and spay and neutering services to the pets of these sensitive groups.

The organizations have only just started to raise money for the $230,000 cost needed to start the shelter. Proceeds from ticket sales for the July 6 event will benefit this cause.

Tickets for the game can be purchased at The Barkery, a bakery for pets, located in Covent Garden Market (130 King St.), and are $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors. Every dog in attendance will receive a free Barkery treat.
