Going green by the numbers

Over the past few years, Fanshawe's made a great effort to be more environmentally conscious. Check out these numbers, provided by Fanshawe's sustainability coordinator Mary-Lee Townsend, for ways our college is going green.

- 50% of Fanshawe students ride the bus full-time

- 75% of Fanshawe students ride the bus at least once per week

- Overall, 93% of Fanshawe students use sustainable commuting options (i.e. other than single occupancy vehicles)

- 25% reduction in energy consumption between 2005 and 2011

- 40% of all the food purchased for consumption on campus is grown and processed locally

- 62% of waste is diverted from landfills through composting or recycling

- Nine chilled water bottle filling stations across campus have eliminated tens of thousands of plastic bottles from the waste stream

- 80% of cleaners used on campus are Green Seal certified
