Nominations now open for student council
Think you've got what it takes to
make 2012/13 a great year for
Fanshawe students? Now's your
chance! Nominations are now
open for student council positions
for next year, so whether you're
into entertainment, finances, sports
or you want to lead the entire
Student Union as President, it's
time to start canvassing for signatures
— you need at least 40 signatures
for a Vice President position
and 80 for President. In addition,
you must be a full-time student in
good academic standing in the
Winter 2012 semester to run for
any of these positions.
Want to run, but not sure what the positions are? There is a lot to each of these jobs, but here are the basics:
Board of Governors' Student Representative: You're the student voice on the Board of Governors. You vote on important issues that will affect students and the greater Fanshawe community.
VP Athletics and Residence Life: You are the Student Union's link to Fanshawe Athletics, and will help to determine the future direction of varsity, intramural and extramural athletics programming. In addition, you will work with residence staff and ensure that students' stay at Fanshawe's residence is awesome.
VP Entertainment: Your job is to make Fanshawe fun. You work with our programmers to bring entertaining acts to Fanshawe. You're also the Chair for Fanshawe's Underground Crew, also known as the FU Crew.
VP Internal Affairs: You organize Fanshawe's clubs, help them get started, bring their application to council for approval and hear them out if they have any issues. You're also in charge of programming the awareness weeks (such as Sexual Awareness Week) and organizing the Shinerama fundraiser.
VP Finance: You link the Student Union and Fanshawe's Financial Aid — basically, you're the person students go to for help with funds for school, such as through OSAP, awards, scholarships and bursaries. You also oversee the FSU's annual budget.
VP External and Academic Affairs: If a student needs help with anything school-related, such as issues with grades, you're the person they go to. You also represent Fanshawe students on government lobbying groups like the College Student Alliance.
President: Being the head of the Student Union is a full-time job — literally! You are the student voice on several councils and committees, and bring student issues to the College. You protect the interests of students and make sure they are getting the best service possible from both the College and the FSU.
Nominations opened on January 23, and nominations will be accepted until February 17. Forms are available in SC2001, the FSU office. It's time to start thinking about next year — what will you do to make 2012/13 great?
