Letter of the Week: “We want spring break!”

Dear editor,
As a class representative for first year Tourism and Travel, I would like to make the Student Union aware that many of the students of the Tourism and Travel division actively oppose the Student Unions suggestion to remove reading week in the case of a strike.

The students feel that reading week is necessary and welcome. We also feel that removing that week is highly unfair to the students who have previously made arrangements for that week which they are financially or morally unable to break. They will be forced to miss important classes scheduled during the break and then struggle to catch up on a full week of classes.

We are the only College looking at removing reading week as a solution to this problem. The suggestion of removing reading week has come too late for students to effectively work around and as a result would be highly disruptive to classes whether or not the strike actually takes place.

Thank you for your time and continued attention to this issue.

Katelyn Hanson,
Class Representative, first-year Tourism and Travel.
