FSU has sex... ual awareness days

Sex, condoms, pornography, birth control, lubrication, Chlamydia, g-spot, masturbation ... Now that the ice is broken, this year's Sexual Awareness Days, which run from September 19 to 21, shouldn't be too awkward.

The week starts with a bang (no pun intended), as MTV's Alyia Jasmine Sovani, along with some of her 1 Girl 5 Gays guests, will bring her blunt and uncensored discussions to Forwell Hall on September 19 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance, available at the Biz Booth, and $7 at the door.

Vice President of Internal Affairs Sam Slade said that the legendary Sue Johanson typically visits the college during the annual Sexual Awareness Weeks, but she has recently retired. Slade said she feels that Sovani is the perfect person to fill this Johanson-sized gap. "It's more modern; everyone watches MTV. Everyone is so excited about it," said Slade.

On September 19 and 20, the Regional HIV/AIDS Connection will be in Forwell Hall, and keep your eyes peeled for free condoms being handed out by the Middlesex London Health Unit.

Forwell Hall will also be booming on September 20, with a sexually aware comedy nooner and the Condom Casino at 8 p.m., where lots of classic casino games are played using condoms as casino chips.

To wrap things up, there will be a sex trivia nooner in Forwell Hall as well as the year's first monthly Sex Toy Bingo at the Out Back Shack at 9 p.m. on September 21.

According to Slade, this week is very important in order to raise sexual awareness among students. "Everyone really needs to use protection more. I feel like everyone was doing so well for a while, but it's starting to fade," said Slade, pointing out how easily unplanned pregnancies can happen and sexually transmitted infections can spread.

The Fanshawe Student Centre Pharmacy estimates that they sell around 40 pregnancy tests per school year. "People just don't think it's that common ... you just don't think it's going to happen to you, " Slade continued, encouraging students to take part in Sexual Awareness Days.
