Walking for a good cause

In recent years, a popular way of raising support for a particular issue has been to set up a walk. You see all different kinds every year, and this September, one that is very important to me is coming up. I, as part of Spectrum Fanshawe, will be walking for my cause.

On September 17, the AIDS Walk for Life will be taking place in London at Springbank Park. This is a nationwide event, and the funding raised goes directly to programs and services that support people living with HIV/AIDS. The recipients of the funding raised here in London are the Regional HIV/AIDS Connection, The John Gordon Home for individuals living with HIV/AIDS and Camp Wendake.

One of these organizations in particular has had a close tie to me via the student group I run, Spectrum Fanshawe. The Regional HIV/AIDS Connection has been a wonderful resource to me, providing me with informational materials to bring to the college, giving advice to my student group and connecting me with community partners and events such as the AIDS Walk for Life. With all that this great community service has done for me and my group, I see participating in and fundraising for the AIDS Walk for Life as an opportunity to say thank you and to help ensure that the RHAC will be able to continue to offer this support and more services to many other individuals in need.

Spectrum Fanshawe is looking for individuals to join our fundraising team and walk with us on September 17 in this event. If any students are interested, they can email spectrumfanshawe@gmail.com or check out aidswalkforlife.ca/london.htm. Walk with us to help raise awareness and make a difference in the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS.
