Giant Gameboy is a huge hit

While everything from vehicles to television screens to fast food meals are getting bigger, one thing continues to shrink — the size of portable electronics and handheld devices.

That is, until now.

Nintendo® has recently announced their largest advertising campaign yet, promoting thee larger-than-life handheld favorite, the Gameboy®.

The newest version of the popular portable game system is actually as far from portable as they come — its dimensions measure a whopping 2 feet by 4 feet, or the size of a moderate-capacity bookshelf.

Giant Gameboy

Originally manufactured for a Giant's Village at Neverland Ranch, only one prototype of the Gameboy was created. But once kids and gaming fanatics caught wind of the toy, the demand went through the roof.

“We can't even keep up with sales,” said Nintendo factory worker Natasha James. “Every day they ask us to increase our productivity.”

The giant Gameboys still run regular-sized games, according to Nintendo executive Robert Kingsmith, and can be connected to a similar system for head-to-head play. In fact, the only thing the giant version can't do that the small one can is fit in your pocket.

Frank Gonzales, pictured above, was one of the first children to test the new system, and said that he's never played something so awkward and silly. Gonzales, an aficionado of video games, says that any real gamer will not want this to play, but rather as a collectible.

“Some lucky collectors will earn big bucks off of this thing one day, but as for right now, its virtually useless,” he added.

The Nintendo Gameboy Giant can be purchased at Toys ‘R' Us stores throughout the US and Canada, but due to high demand, calling ahead is a wise move.
