June 15 - Nevado Records settled into The Rivoli for their NXNE showcase, bringing a string of talented acts to pack the room from start to finish. And in addition to a solid lineup, Vancouver's Yukon Blonde showed up to play a surprise set to close the night.

Loom

The night began with Loom, whose self-titled 45 was just released on June 7. Performing alone on stage, Loom filled the room with her charm and her beautiful songs.

Megan Bonnell took the stage next, her contemporary piano pop accompanied by drums and at times a cellist. While her songs varied greatly in terms of arrangement and tone, her sultry voice suited the music and the atmosphere very well.

The video above is her performing "The Wind", from her self-titled EP released in 2010. Bonnell is celebrating the coming release of Maps, her new EP due on June 21.

Local favourites The Meligrove Band provided a sonic shift, bringing their punk rock dynamic to the stage. Attendants danced without care through the highly energetic set, and the band even paid homage to The Ramones with several well-executed covers.

The night continued with Nevado artists The Paint Movement, Library Voices and Yukon Blonde, word of whose surprise performance leaked online in the hours leading up to their set at 1 a.m.
