Natasha Amo loves her team ... and ice cream

Second-year student Natasha Amo is finding a way to balance school and sport. Being in the collaborative nursing program and on the basketball team leaves little time for her to party. "I would like to say that in my spare time I party, but my schedule is to demanding so I just find a way to eat ice cream every day," Amo said.

She said she chose to attend Fanshawe because it gives her a chance to get a great education and play basketball. In practice she is viewed as a leader, and said her vocal leadership during practices and games helps the girls play harder.

When she is in a game or practice, she said she has her mind on one thing: "Winning the (Ontario Colleges Athletic Association)." When she is off the court, she always has a smile on her face. "There are many different personalities on the team. Those are the greatest things about the team," Amo said. Amo's personality is a unique one — if she isn't dancing on the sidelines or cracking jokes with the team, then she is focused on the drills.

Teammates look up to Amo for leadership as well help on and off the court. She is always there to help, and said she just enjoys the game so much, she can't get enough of it. Not only does she joke around with the women's team, she is constantly talking and joking with the men's team before and after practice. Teammates said, "She is like a sister to all of us. She definitely cares about each and everyone of us."

Amo is encouraging everyone to come out and support the team at their next home game on November 10 at 6 p.m. against Sheridan.
