Fanshawe Fashionista: Have a Burberry Christmas and a classy New Year!

There are many obstacles associated with the weeks prior to the Christmas holidays. The season is filled with chaos, from driving and parking, to dining and making reservations, and every element in between. The ‘Christmas rush' makes life during those snowy months hard enough, so finding something to wear to the many events you will attend should be easy as warm apple pie. (Mmmm, holiday food…)

Choosing the perfect gift for someone special is tough, but choosing the right holiday outfit can be the worst task of all if you don't know what is current for this season. That said, there are a few things to keep in mind this year when shopping for that amazing new dress or suit to make everyone wish you were under their Christmas tree December 25.

Ladylike fashion and glamour takes centre stage this season, as colour drenches the scene, and styles go far beyond the look of a basic black dress. This season, black is used primarily as an accent colour, mixed with bright, vivid shades of plum, aqua and many metallics. Colour is key when choosing the perfect holiday ensemble. You want to look tasteful, yet trendy; cheerful, but not cheap. Even if the glamorous look is one that you have never attempted before, dare to embrace the very feminine side of yourself and get all dolled up while remaining current. The dress code for the holidays is very trend-driven. Traditional styles are out and more elaborate, sophisticated looks are certainly in.

Like anytime of the year, accessories can completely transform any outfit. Faux fur, velvet, and metallic finishes can reinvent a regular purse, to an amazing handbag or holiday clutch. Decorative pantyhose in a wide array of colours and styles are also going to be seen before we ring in a new year, and attention to detail is key.

Heels are a knockout in bold shades to complement accent colours, and stilettos are always a great way to go; they simply never go out of style.

To make the most of your wardrobe, mix new purchases and Christmas gifts with existing pieces in your closet. A few festive touches and additions will illuminate and update your wardrobe and provide great fashionable options for the many activities you will attend.

For an office party or a more casual approach, bust out an embellished suit with a sexy camisole or corset underneath. Suits are far from conservative, and can be worn with or without the blazer, accompanied by a great pair of heels and a festive camisole. These pieces can work together or separately, and are great to wear in the day as well as at night.

So whatever your plans are this holiday season, keep these tips in mind and top off a wonderful year in nothing but your best and most fashionable gear.

Merry Christmas!
