Exec Corner: Merry Christmas, Fanshawe!

Holidays can be the most exciting time of the year; spending time with family and friends, sharing the spirit of the season, and showing appreciation through gifts of all kinds. Not that I need to mention it, but the receiving of gifts doesn't hurt either.

For me it's all about the gatherings and reconciling about the past year, good or bad. This year I can sympathize with those of you that find the holidays difficult.

This past summer I lost a close friend to a tragic accident and will be spending my first Christmas without him around. I've been told that celebrating occasions are the hardest times. So for those of you experiencing the same feelings here is my advice: spend time remembering - I'll be looking back at all the good times we had. Look to those close to you for support and be the support for them because they may be experiencing the same or similar feelings. Lastly, take the time for yourself to grieve, even if your situation wasn't recent. Grieving is a natural and normal process for healing your heart.

If you don't think you can handle these times alone I want to remind you of your resources right here on campus. Counselling and Student Life or the Chaplain Centre would be glad to visit with you.

My holiday wish for all of you at Fanshawe is to stay safe and make the most of your celebrations.

I will see you all in the New Year and all the best to you and your loved ones.
