Letter to the Editor: Time to muzzle Mirshahi

Dear Editor:

I am writing to express my concern about the radical views of one of the Interrobang's contributers, Darius Mirshahi.

Let me begin by saying that I wholeheartedly support his right to say whatever he wants, and I support your right to print it. However, I feel he crosses the line in a number of his opinions, and I plan to outline a few of these.

In the February 22, 2010 Interrobang issue 23 in a column titled: In defence of the 2010 Black Bloc, Mirshahi claims that Canada and “The Bay” are responsible for an ongoing genocide. He gives no evidence or reason for this, but goes on to make his next wacky comment, where he accuses police of daily violence and of violently kidnapping people and holding them hostage in prisons.

In this column he also defends the violent and unlawful protest at the Vancouver Olympics, where windows were smashed and roads blocked. He makes these masked protesters out to be heroes, and claims a violent and destructive protest is the only way to get your voice heard.

I understand Mirshahi writes an opinion column, but his views are hateful and false. He advocates rioting, calls our government fascist, and our leaders tyrants. If the Interrobang has any respect left for good journalism and reasonable debate, they will stop printing this man's angry diatribes against our society, and fill the space with something worth reading.
