Fanshawe College and Western sign ESL Agreement

The University of Western Ontario and Fanshawe College signed an agreement in December 2009 allowing international students to receive a conditional letter of acceptance to the university without further English testing. This is significant, prior to signing this agreement an international student applying to Western without having the required level of English would not be accepted, even if all the other academic requirements were met. Now, international students can apply to the University of Western Ontario using the new joint application between Western and Fanshawe. Students can now be accepted by Western with a condition of completing the Fanshawe College Level 5 English as Second Language Program with an 80 per cent mark.

International students will receive two letters of acceptance, one from Fanshawe for ESL and a conditional letter of acceptance from Western for their undergraduate degree program. The first students apply using this new pathway will be arriving at Fanshawe in May 2010.

Fanshawe has had similar agreements with King's University College, Huron University College and Brescia University College at Western. This new agreement with Western provides a clear pathway international students from Fanshawe's ESL Program to all the undergraduate degree programs at Western and its affiliated schools.
