The Fanshawe Falcons women's soccer team finished fourth at the 2005 Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) Soccer Championships hosted by Langara College in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The Falcons squad came up just short after Grant MacEwan College defeated them 2-1 in the bronze medal match. Fanshawe earned their spot in the bronze medal game after finishing 1-1-0 in round robin play in their pool with a 2-1 victory over Thompson Rivers University (British Columbia) and a 4-1 loss to the eventual silver medallists from FX Garneau (Quebec).

Team captain Emily Costello was named to the CCAA All-Star team for her excellent play throughout the Championships. Costello said that despite the loss the team is still very satisfied with the team's season.

“The season was a success, provincials were great for us to win, we didn't win in nationals, or medal in nationals but we still came out with an experience and overall we had a good season and we can only get stronger from here,” Costello said.
Costello said that despite coming up short in the CCAA championships, the whole trip, and experience was very memorable.

“A lot of us had never been to B.C., or went that far for soccer. It was a nice experience, a nice bonding experience, our team kind of clicked,” she said. “Unfortunately we came up short but at the same time it was a learning experience and hopefully it will help us build for next year.”

Costello said she was also happy with her individual award of being named to the CCAA All-star team.

“I didn't expect it, of course everyone on our team deserves to be recognized, but I just kind of took it. It was nice though.”
