For the rest of time the event UFC 104: Machida vs. Shogun shall be renamed “UFC 104: Controversy”.

This coming after the biggest farce of a decision ever seen in the UFC in regards to judging not only a title fight, but any fight the promotion has ever hosted when Maurico “Shogun” Rua was robbed of the title by the judges handing the fight to Lyoto Machida.

It's tough to explain what happened without you actually watching Machida and Shogun do battle, but to break it down, it was Machida eating kicks and punches for four of the five rounds, and not inflicting as much damage as received. Basically, that's grounds for a Shogun win, four rounds to one in my book but all three judges scored the bout in a fashion that gave Machida three rounds and Shogun two, keeping the light-heavy weight title in the hands of Machida.

Not only do I feel bad for Shogun, I feel bad for Machida also, he clearly lost and you could tell in his body language after the fight that he knows he didn't deserve to win that fight, but what can you do when the judges appoint you the winner? Even UFC president Dana White said himself that he thought Shogun won the fight.

For further proof, if we look at the fight metric stats for this, which I rarely do, you'll see that in total Shogun landed 82 strikes to Machida's 42 and not in one single round did Machida out strike Shogun. In a fight that didn't go to the ground, the striking plays a much larger role in who comes out victorious, or at least it should.

But there is no point in crying over spilt milk.

Already, there has been an immediate rematch called for and White has said that he's making that happen at the earliest possible date. But they have to first wait for Machida, the fight winner, to get medically cleared. Isn't it weird that the guy who won the fight has to get medical clearance, while Shogun, who technically lost is ready and fine to do battle once again.

For now it's time to move on because you can't go back and change the judges decision, this just goes to show that in no way can you leave the fight in the judges hands, go out and finish the fight because that's the only way you can 100 per cent ensure victory.

It's just sad to see flashes of the Michael Bisping win over Matt Hamill here, except this time there was a title on the line and hopefully in the rematch Shogun will come with a killer instinct and get the title that he rightfully deserves.
