Wow — what a crazy couple of weeks, huh? I love not sleeping, eating properly and 8 a.m. classes... highlight of my year I think.

It's funny, because every summer before school starts I try to get myself ready for the next school year, and you'd think that in my third year at Fanshawe I would have that mastered by now — epic fail.

Like clockwork the year unravels like you wouldn't expect, like every other year. You never actually know how intense your program will be until you get first-hand experience. I had people question whether or not I'd be able to juggle everything this year (yes I know it's still early, so far so good), what with FSU, BAM, friends and family and my other two jobs. I almost thought I couldn't do it either, almost.

Many of you are probably in the same boat as me, juggling school, work, social life, and personal life — one of those is probably being neglected, bound to happen when you don't have what seems like time to breathe. Luckily, I've managed to balance everything with something I like to call my bible, a.k.a. my organizer.

I used to heavily rely on my Blackberry, but I'd forget to update my calendar and linking it up to Outlook was such a pain, writing everything down and making note of it in my planner makes it more idiot proof. Seriously, I live with this thing attached to my body, I put everything in it because meetings always get added or changed, friends and family make plans, and work schedules conflict. I always make sure that it is up to date that way I don't miss out on something or fall behind.

If FSU has taught me anything in the past four months it's that organization is key. I know, everyone always says that but it's true. I don't think that I'd get very far if I didn't schedule anything, I'd always be missing out on pretty important stuff.

My days usually consist of school/meeting/school/work/fam/hw/friends/sleep. I wouldn't have it any other way though, being busy is what keeps me motivated and on top of things. So if you're feeling overwhelmed with this new routine you have going on, write it out in a planner. Trust me — you will feel much more at ease because you will know what you have to do and when you have to do it by.

The next time I write an article, which is due October 27, I will have done a few major things like attend the College Student Alliance October Conference in Sault Ste. Marie and I will update you on Advocacy initiatives and anything else I can get my hands on! This makes my job a hell of a lot easier, and keeps me on top of everything. The last thing I need is Jabari (Cooper) breathing down my neck to get stuff done (he's such a critic). Questions or concerns? Give me a shout via e-mail fsuexternal@fanshawec.ca — it's never too late to get grounded.
