“Rediculous attack” or clever hyperbole?

Dear editor;

Two weeks ago in an editorial piece in the Interrobang, Leigh Cooney seemed perturbed at the apparent “ridiculous attack” by a pro-life advertisement that was in the paper the week before. The advertisement featured the image of a developing child in the womb, with captions suggesting the opportunities the child would miss if aborted prior to birth.

I guess I missed the ridiculous attack cleverly hidden in the advertisement. From my perspective, the ad was trying to point out that women have the power to choose life or death; and that they need to consider the ramifications of the choice they finally make. Besides the fact that abortion takes the life of an innocent human being - and is therefore morally wrong - there are secondary effects of abortion to be considered. Breast cancer is linked to abortion; severe post abortion depression is present in the vast majority of cases, and the (clinically documented) feelings of guilt and lament that stem from having an abortion. While Mr. Cooney exhibits superb mastery of hyperbole in his postscript it just detracts from his character by mocking human life again. It is imperative to take a definitive stand against the injustice of abortion just as we would if our neighbour murdered his wife, we must make this paradigm shift recognizing the killing of the innocent.
