No bitchin' just petition

Recently you may have seen me or members of the Student Administrative Council walking around asking Fanshawe students to sign a petition. Every college student union in Ontario that is a member of the CSA is getting students to sign these petitions to try to influence the decisions made in the upcoming federal budget.

The federal government is investing $2 billion in repairs to post secondary institutions all across Canada, providing colleges with 30 per cent and universities with 70 per cent of the allocated funds. This petition is to state that we believe the 70-30 per cent split is unfair and that colleges deserve more than 30 per cent of the allotted $2 billion.

The Fanshawe Student Union will fax all of the signed petitions to our Members Provincial Parliament, Khalil Ramal, Deb Matthews, Chris Bentley, Ernie Hardeman and Steve Peters.

Every member campus of the CSA is faxing letters and signatures to get all of the MPPs across Ontario to pay attention to the lack of fairness to colleges. Our strength is in numbers, so make sure to sign the petition as soon as possible so we can get the petitions in before the final decisions are made March 26, 2009.

If you agree that colleges need more funding, make sure to sign the petition. If I bug you to sign it while you're eating lunch with you're friends I apologize, it is just crucial that you have access to this petition and that your voice is heard. If you have not had a chance to sign the petition, don't be shy just stop by the student union office in SC2001 and ask for a copy. You can even start your own petition, drop it off to the Student Union office and I will make sure it gets faxed to our MPP's.

If you have any questions or would like me to email you a copy of the petition, email fsuexternal@fanshawec.ca
