Coraline takes viewers to another world

Coraline

Coraline is a winner, thanks to its entirely 3D world, star voices and fantastic sights.

Coraline (voice of Dakota Fanning) and her parents moved to a new town and are now living in the Pink Apartments. Both of her parents write for a magazine about plants, but neither of them is willing to get dirty gardening anymore. Coraline spends most of her time alone, wishing that her parents would pay more attention to her.

She decides to go on little adventures by herself where she makes a new friend, meets her strange neighbours, and finds a small door in her house that is bricked up. One night she follows some mice around her house and through the small door. She crawls through after them into another version of her house.

Once here she meets her Other Mother and Other Father, who look just like her real parents except that they have buttons for eyes. Her Other Mother is very attentive, always cooking for her and setting up fantastical events. The neighbours and even her new friend are all better versions in the Other world than the real world. Coraline contemplates staying in this world forever until a warning from a talking cat makes her think twice and she starts to see the Other world for what it really is, a nightmare put together by an evil witch. All Coraline has to do now is get back to the real world alive and save her parents.

3D movies, while not appropriate for every type of movie are perfect for animated movies, in this case a stop action movie. Unlike the 3D movies in the past where only the things that popped out at you are in 3D, the entire world of Coraline was 3D. It was amazing. The world that they created was so fantastic and the audience was right there in it. The story was very intriguing, and while appropriate for all ages, it didn't feel childish at all.

Dakota Fanning did the voice of Coraline and was joined by stars like Teri Hatcher as the mother and Other mother, Keith David, John Hodgman and Ian McShane. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes 3D movies and stop action classics.

Final Words: Saw it. Liked it. I will never look at buttons the same way again.
