His muscles are always on his mind

Name: Adam Colorado Age: 20 Sport: Bodybuilding Field of Study: Fine Arts

How long have you been bodybuilding?
I've been competing for five and a half years, and training for four years.

How many competitions have you done?
There have been four so far.

What made you start?
I was overweight when I was younger. I got a lack of attention from girls so that motivated me. I got stronger. I know Maria Parker, she's a professional bodybuilder. I met her at the gym, and I got into it right away.

What's your training schedule like?
I weight lift six days a week and do cardio everyday. My off-season weight is around 200 pounds and contest weight is 175. The goal is to get as ripped as possible without losing the size of the muscles.

Any injuries?
Way back in the day I dislocated my knee.

Favourite thing about bodybuilding?
It's all about you. You take out of it what you put into it. You see yourself improve.

How do you handle losses?
I've only lost one (competition) so far. When I do lose, I just keep working harder. When you lose you can only blame yourself, there's no teammates or anybody else to blame.

Best memory?
My first competition. I won London Western Ontario Junior Champion two years ago, in 2007.

Do you have a special diet?
I eat sixtimes a day, every two hours. My protein sources are chicken, any kind of fish, and egg whites. I eat any red meats. Closer to competition I eat less carbs, so I eat veggies, brown rice or oatmeal.

How is it balancing school and bodybuilding?
It's really tough, my days start at 5am.

Where are the competitions?
I travel in Canada. The first one coming up is, outside of Toronto.

Worst thing about bodybuilding?
It's good and bad. When you go out to eat with somebody, you can't eat whatever you want.

What differs bodybuilding from other sports?
It's a 24-hour commitment. With other sports, you can go home and do whatever you want, like drink. Bodybuilding is physically demanding.

Do you have a lot of support?
Yep! For the next competition, I have 15 people coming. It's tough because a lot of people don't know about bodybuilding.

What are your future goals/plans?
Career wise, I'm looking to get my degree here, then get my Masters, then go to teachers College and to teach the Arts. I'm pretty serious about becoming a professional bodybuilder.
