Claws come out for bitchy brides

Bride Wars

Bride Wars shows women as catty, vengeful and plain old nasty in this comedy about two best friends turned enemies.

Liv (Kate Hudson) and Emma (Anne Hathaway) are best friends that have been planning their perfect weddings since they were children. Both dream weddings have to be in June at the Plaza with the help of the famous wedding planner Marion St. Claire (Candice Bergen). Now all the girls need is to turn their boyfriends into their fiancés. Upon completing this task, the girls, who are each other's maid of honour, go together to visit Marion. She has three openings, two on June 6 and one later in the month. Liv takes the June 6 date and Emma takes the later one. Everything is perfect until Marion calls them in to let them know that their weddings have accidentally both been planned for the 6th of June. One of them must move their wedding to another date and venue. But who?

Here is where things get tricky between these best friends. Each of the girls thinks that the other one should move her wedding. When neither does, the claws come out. Liv and Emma, once best friends, are using each other's weaknesses to torture each other. Bad tans and blue hair are just some of the tricks they play in attempt to ruin each other's wedding day. Can these girls make it out of their fight alive and make it to their weddings on time?

It was fun to see the ultra-catty side of brides and how even a great friendship can turn ugly when it comes to men and weddings. Lead by an all-star cast, this movie had no choice but to be a well acted. Kate Hudson (Fool's Gold) and Anne Hathaway (Get Smart) make a great team, playing off one another and they have obvious chemistry. Add in Candice Bergen and the support of the fiancés, Chris Pratt and Steve Howey, and this movie is enjoyable in every aspect. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes romantic comedies that turn vicious and vindictive.

Final Words: Saw it. Liked it. Wow girls can be mean.
