Try not to make money mistakes

There's a table just outside of the Oasis, which I'm sure you've seen. It's always there. Maybe there's a girl there. Maybe there are two girls there. Sometimes they have laptops with them. Most people don't know what they're there for, which is understandable. But let me tell you, they aren't there just to check their e-mail. They're not there to hire you as a telemarketer. They are there because it's their job. This is the elusive Financial Marketing Team, and they are there to help you.

Don't let the fact that there is no sign with or anywhere near them explaining what they do throw you off. I'm working on that, honest. These ladies can help you apply for bursaries, get prepared for bursaries, and just generally steer you in the right direction when it comes to applying for free money. They are always willing to help, and they pull it off like it's their job - which it is, actually, so it works out nicely.

Now, you definitely don't need to line up at some random table if you don't want. You're more than welcome to just do it yourself at www.yourmoneydance.com. You can log onto it like you would your FanshaweOnline account, and instantly you'll be able to search for every single bursary Fanshawe College has to offer. That's awesome, in case you were unsure. The site will guide you through the steps on applying, and will let you know the status of anything you've already applied for. It's an amazing site and you should do your best to utilize it.

Okay then. Let's go further out and say you don't even want to apply for bursaries. Not quite sure why, but for sake of argument, you just outright don't. You're still going to need to make some decisions in where your money goes, to ensure that you have more of it, for the longest possible time. I'll be honest; I can't tell you what you should be buying to make your life less expensive; I'm not changing your lifestyles. However, I'll let you know a couple things you probably shouldn't do. This is speaking from experience — just don't do these things.

Don't buy tennis balls that are the size of basketballs. It's stupid. It's impractical. You're going to use it once to see if it's actually a basketball, and then stop when you realize it'll get ruined so easily. It's a waste of thirty dollars. Don't do it, even if it's on an awesome display in the middle of a whole bunch of regular-sized tennis balls. It's a bad idea.

Don't give someone cash for a bucket of change, even if the change is ultimately worth more than the cash you paid for it. It's a ridiculous concept, and it will take you forever to complete rolls to actually redeem your change. Even then, you're just turning it back into cash. If you don't want to roll it yourself, a machine will do it for you, but will probably charge you ten cents on every dollar, which will inevitably end with you breaking even, or possibly a deficit.

Don't buy a pound of beef jerky off of eBay. You will be made fun of by your peers if they find out — which they will. They will never let you live it down. in fact, don't buy any food on eBay, period.

Well, I hope this gives you some insight on your financial endeavors this school year. If you ever have any questions, do not hesitate to e-mail or call me.
