RE: The Sex Issue published October 14, 2008, Volume 41 Issue No.9

I am writing in regard to the “The Sex Issue” put out by the Interrobang for the week of October 14th 2008.

While I applaud the Interrobang's efforts to educate the student population around sex with the inclusion of some very relevant and important information, I am disappointed that you did not make any effort to address the sexual diversity of the college's population.

Throughout the entire issue, there is only one mention of a sexual orientation other than heterosexual, where you dispel the myth that if "you have same-sex fantasies you must be gay."

Yeah, you might not be gay if you fantasize about someone of the same-sex, but for some, perhaps you are. For many actually. And you know what? There's nothing wrong with that.

Fanshawe, believe it or not folks, does have a population that includes students and faculty that are gay, lesbian, bisexual, as well as transgendered, and they deserve to be acknowledged and respected, not only in your paper, but in the college community as a whole. And by conspicuously excluding those populations in your exploration of sexuality, you are contributing to a heterosexist and non-inclusive learning environment.

The Interrobang needs to open its eyes and acknowledge and support everyone in this college, and perhaps the staff at this paper also need to question why exactly they don't.
