Fanshawe student dies

Fanshawe College has lost one of their Music Industry Arts students due to an accident that took place on October 1.

Twenty-year-old Sam Clarke from Perth, Ontario was in his first year of MIA having graduated from the General Arts and Science program recently.

A truck was traveling northbound at 7:32 pm when he allegedly struck Clarke, who was riding a bicycle, on the corner of Adelaide and St. James St.

Students and staff who knew Clarke are encouraged to seek counseling that is offered in the college.

“Sam's family is planning a memorial gathering at their home in Perth, Thanksgiving weekend. While anyone is welcome, Sam's father has indicated that they do not expect students or staff to travel that far,” advised Manager of Marketing and Communications Emily Marcoccia.

“They have asked us to express how appreciative they have been of Fanshawe support following Sam's accident. Fanshawe staff and students are also planning to honour Sam in a Fanshawe memorial service and they will be notified of arrangements.”

It is a tragic loss to Clarke's family, friends and staff at Fanshawe who have lost a bright young man with his whole life ahead of him.

“Our deepest sympathies are extended to Sam's family, friends, fellow students and staff at this very difficult time,” said Marcoccia.
