SAC - Student Administrative Council Candidates

Art & Design

Frank Neufeld
Hey Fanshawe! My name is Frank Neufeld and I’m a first year graphic design student. I’m from a small town near Windsor that no one has ever heard of and am really enjoying the transition to a big city. I love doing art, especially airbrushing, playing sports, and hanging out with friends. Fanshawe has been amazing so far and I would love to be a part of running it. I was involved in my high school’s student government for three years. I had a great time doing it, and would like to be a part of Fanshawe’s incredible Student Union, so vote Frank Neufeld for the Art and Design Division representative on S.A.C.!

Human Services

Jessica Hicks
Hey folks! The name is Jessica Hicks, candidate for Human Services Division Rep. I am in my third year here at Fanshawe: I’m taking Law and Security. I love Fanshawe, I love students and I love helping out! I am the student volunteer coordinator for the Police Foundations and Law and Security programs. I spend more than half of my days organizing things for people to look good for their futures. I think I should get a little credit for that... *holds for applause*. Is anyone else tired of being beat up over a few students who can’t control themselves over on Fleming? Let’s figure out some ways to get it under control! Need help with teachers? Do you have problems with anything in the school? Have questions about anything around Fanshawe? Okay, you get it. I LOVE FANSHAWE and I want you to love it just as much! On a more personal note, I’m pretty much a pirate when I’m not in school. Who doesn’t love pirates? Seriously. So, if you are in the Human Services Division, and you want someone to look out for you, and your best interests here at Fanshawe, and you love pirates (heck, even if you don’t love pirates), then Vote Jessica Hicks. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions. J_Hicks23089@fanshaweonline.ca.

Health Sciences and Nursing

Rochelle Malley
Hey Fanshawe! My name is Rochelle Malley and I am running to be your Health Sciences Division rep. I look forward to being a bigger part of the Fanshawe community. I am currently in my second year in the Fitness and Health Promotion program and I love it. You guys might see me kickin’ around the gym or the squash courts because I tend to borderline live there.

I feel that I have a strong voice and a real passion for getting the message across. I look forward to representing the Health and Science division to provide good ideas and bring up any major concerns. I am a very approachable person and am excited to work closely with the students and the fellow committee members to bring you the most potential Fanshawe has to offer.

Now I’m not going to tell you what to do, but may I advise you...vote for me, Rochelle Malley.

Samantha Fox
I’m Samantha Fox and I’m running for the Health Sciences and Nursing Division rep. This is my second year at Fanshawe in the Nursing program. I am a highly motivated person and I can put that motivation to work for you. If you have a problem I will work my hardest to make sure it is resolved. I can be friendly and outgoing so you can come talk to me anytime, but I am also not afraid to stick up for you in front of the college community.

Students in the health sciences take a varied array of classes and have a lot of work on our plates, and you may have ideas to make life in the health sciences even better. With me as your division rep I can make those ideas a reality so, vote Samantha Fox on October 8th and 9th.

Contemporary Media

Alex Mak
Hello Fanshawe!! My name is Alex Mak. I am a second year student in the Music Industry Arts program. I hail from a small town known as Sarnia, Ontario or Sarn-hole as we native Sarnia’s refer to it.

Growing up in a smaller city cemented my sense of family and community at a young age. Which is why I feel this job is so perfect for me. As S.A.C. representative for The School of Contemporary Media my goal will be to bridge the distant gap between the many programs that share the umbrella that is contemporary media. By tightening our college community we will be able to expand our contact networks far beyond what is possible now. Many of us may end up working together on the same projects somewhere down life’s long road. Why not get to know the future Industry leaders now in the early stages? Together we can create great works of visual and audible art that will help tighten our College community. Not to mention KILLER parties for everyone to mingle. Stay classy Fanshawe and Vote YES for MAK... He can take it in the S.A.C... don’t believe me? Check my posters... Peace!

Business

Kristen Jeanveau
Hello Fanshawe! I’m Kristen Jeanveau and I’m running to be the SAC representative for the Business Division. I’m currently enrolled in the Professional Financial Services Program and this is my first year at Fanshawe. I’ve worked in the Financial Services Industry for several years and I previously attended Kings College for their Honours History Program. I’m very excited to have made the switch here!

I’m lucky enough to be attending Fanshawe with my husband, mother-in-law and brother-in-law, so we’ve definitely made this a family affair. (No family discount on tuition, alas!) I thought that running for SAC would be the best way to get involved during my year here and my mandate for this role is very simple: to be your voice.

I look forward to getting to know more of you over the course of the year and hope that you’ll choose me to be your representative.

FSU Executive Candidates

VP Internal Affairs

Ross Mackenzie
Hey Fanshawe students! My name is Ross and I’d like to give you an idea of who I am as a person. I’m 22 years old, originate from Windsor, have a Scottish background and I’m a Sagittarius. My hobbies include reading, painting, socializing with friends, and I have a slight addiction to buying DVDs.

I’ve been a part of Fanshawe for the past four years; both attending classes and working in the Oasis for three years. I was a work-study employee in the FSU office for the summer and that is how I came to decide to run for VP Internal. My job over the summer was to help organize Shinerama and Alcohol Awareness Week. I had a great summer getting to know the executive council and came to the conclusion that I wanted to be a part of that team.

The basic responsibility of the VP Internal Affairs is to oversee the clubs, organize awareness weeks, be a liaison between London and satellite campuses, and to ensure the health plan is implemented properly. Those duties are set so I’m not going to make campaign promises based on making changes or bringing into effect things that I have no power over. Instead, I promise to do my best at any task set before me, and that is all I can do.

So vote Ross Mackenzie for VP Internal Affairs. Ross Mackenzie, the guy you know.

Rob McGarry
Trust - Experience - Leadership,

It’s what you expect in a leader, and it’s what you’ll get when you elect, Rob McGarry, as your next VP of Internal Affairs. I am a recent graduate of the broadcast journalism program, and am currently in the Television News post-grad program. I am also a lifelong Londoner, and have been at Fanshawe since 2006, so that experience coupled with my background in journalism has enabled me to connect with many people at the college and in the community at large, which I will access as VP of Internal Affairs. I also currently work at four London radio stations: AM980, FM96, 103.1 Fresh FM and 1039 FM, The Hawk, which has given me a chance to show my leadership skills by operating for all four of London’s largest commercial radio stations.

My name may sound familiar to you as I ran for this position back in March, during that campaign I along with the other candidates helped to bring out a record-setting number of students who voted during the election, in addition to having a very visible campaign on campus. I am seeking this position once again because I want to have a chance to represent you, and your concerns, on your student union. I wouldn’t be running for a third time in the last 12 months if I really did not want to work on your behalf.

The platform I am running on is simple, to be an accessible representative to you whether it is on or off campus. I have found through my years in the media field, and in journalism that it is important to have good communication skills and be accessible, and this is what I want to do for you. Anytime you have a question, concern, comment or anything I want to available to answer you, whether it’s 3 pm or 3 am, I’ll be there.

Feel free to talk to me in the halls or join my Facebook group, and this October 8th and 9th you have a clear choice, and that choice is someone who will be there for you. VOTE ROB MCGARRY FOR VP Internal, Trust + Experience + Leadership = Someone you can count on!

Kelly Smith
Hey All!!

My name is Kelly Smith and I hope to be your new VP of Internal Affairs. I’m originally from Woodstock and am taking the Corporate Communications and Public Relations program here at Fanshawe. I love working with people, being creative and helping others. I feel that by electing me, you will be putting the clubs and awareness weeks at Fanshawe in good hands. I plan to make Fanshawe’s clubs more widely known across campus. I intend to make our awareness weeks more widely attended and more than that, FUN!! I hope you take your vote and use it! Many people in our history have made a difference, and so will I! Vote Kelly Smith for VP of Internal Affairs!

VP Finance

Nick Austin
Hey there. My name is Nick Austin, and I’m running to be your VP of Finance. As you sit there and read this, you’re not doing anything else. So essentially, I’m saving you money already, since you’re not buying anything. Which is good, in case you didn’t know.

This is my third year at Fanshawe, and I’m currently in my second year of Music Industry Arts. While the program is largely fixated on sound engineering and production, there is a very strong business aspect to it. Last year, I was your student representative for all the Contemporary Media programs, and this year I felt I could benefit the students even more, and I’d like to take it to the next level. In the past years, the FSU has handled its money very professionally, and I want to make sure it’s handled equally as well this year. Which is why I’m betting it all on black 29. I mean, really, 35 to one payout. That’s amazing.

Now, obviously this job isn’t all hilarity and entertainment. It’d be foolish of me to have you think I’m not serious about this. There’s a lot to this job, and I’m ready to put in the hours, but I just feel that the students should know that I’d honestly have fun doing this job. It’s an easy concept - I’ll enjoy my job, so I’ll do it well. It’s definitely a bit geeky, but music and math have a lot to do with each other. I really can’t help it.

Joe Scalia
Hey Fanshawe! I’m Joe Scalia, I’m a second year Broadcast Television student and I’m running for VP Finance. I’ve done plenty of work for the FSU already, and I’ve practically fallen in love with the place. The people who work here at FSU are dedicated, hard working people who only have your best interests at heart. I want to continue working with them to make sure this place keeps getting better and better.

Last year I was a custodian for FSU. Me and “The Robs” cleaned through Forwell Hall and the Oasis eating area six days a week. We tidied up the Student Union and Interrobang offices, and set up many dinners, pub nights, concerts and poster sales.

This past summer I had the opportunity of working with the FSU as a video producer, and had a ton of fun making videos and commercials for them. Check all of them out on the FSU Facebook, Youtube channel, or at FSU.ca! You may have seen some of them already on the TV outside of the Shack

This election is an opportunity for me to step out from behind the scenes and help students directly. If I’m elected I’ll work with the college to try and create more student jobs around campus. I’ll ensure that your tuition money is spent primarily on you and your programs, not just on construction around the school.

Please vote for Joe for VP Finance October 8th and 9th! Elections are on fanshaweonline.ca and voting is between 9am on the 8th and 2 pm on the 9th!
