10,000 BC

While the trailer for 10,000 BC filled the theatres, the movie did not keep the audience glued to their seats.

The prehistoric world 12,000 years ago was very different from our own, with prophecies and gods, beasts and hunters. The mountain tribe D'Leh (Steven Strait) belongs to are hunters of the great mammoths, who travel through their lands every year before winter. This year the reward for being the hunter who slays the lead male mammoth is the white spear and a woman. The woman in question is Evolet (Camilla Belle), who was the only survivor after her people (a different tribe) were slaughtered and is the only person the mountain people have ever seen with blue eyes.

Years before on the night that Evolet was brought to the mountain tribe, Old Mother saw a prophecy, that the man that Evolet marries would save the world, and he and Evolet would ensure a prosperous life for the rest of the tribe for all time. D'Leh desperately wants to kill the mammoth, because he has been in love with Evolet ever since the night she came to their tribe, and Evolet loves him as well.

The two never get a chance to be together because a warlord and his companions raid the tribe, killing men and women, kidnapping several of the men and Evolet. Determined to save her, D'Leh sets off with Tic'Tic (Cliff Curtis), Ka'Ren (Mo Zinal) and Baku (Nathanael Baring) following the warlord's trail across the lands, where they encounter creatures and tribes that they never imagined existed. Along the way, they meet people from different tribes who have also had their families killed or taken by the warlord. The people they meet believe that D'Leh fits the prophecy they have of the man who will save the world. Now joined by hundreds of men, D'Leh and his comrades journey to the city of the Gods to save their people and take down a God himself. A journey that began for love will end as a battle to save all of civilization.

10,000 BC has a lot of potential, however it didn't follow through. The trailer made the movie out to be full of action, prehistoric creatures and a huge battle. Realistically, it was lacking in all areas. While the action that was in the movie was good, there was not nearly enough. The movie ended up being quite slow and they literally spent the entire movie walking around.

As for the prehistoric creatures, they were done excellently. There were plenty of mammoths, but I wished there had been more saber tooth tigers, or even different kinds of animals. The graphics overall were amazing. As for the final battle, the climax to get there was good, the fighting was very good, and at times very gruesome, but it ended very abruptly.

Steven Strait (The Covenant) plays the role of the hero very well. I really like him in movies, especially when he plays a strong character. Cliff Curtis (Live Free or Die Hard), and Camilla Belle (When a Stranger Calls) were both a little corny at times, but overall I liked them both in this movie. I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys slower-paced action movies about a different era.

Final Words: Saw it. Liked it. All talk, no action... Literally.
