Take your dollars downtown

Richmond Row is a shopping haven, but at a price

If you are new to the whole London scene, you may have not herd of all the hidden shopping gems along Richmond Street.

“Richmond Row,” as it's been dubbed, is a the heart of London's downtown, where at night it's the place to be and during the day it's a place to dine and SHOP! Richmond Row has unique shops that can tempt you to lay down your credit card, so I'll start off by warning you that certain items located downtown can be pricey. Also note the store hours, for the majority of shops downtown close at 7 p.m. or earlier, not like the mall hours we are all use to.

A top favourite for most on Richmond Row is Archie's Surf Shop. Archie's is a two-floor store that caters to both guys and gals. They sell all types of big name clothing (Juicy Couture) there and have a footwear section with name brands such as Uggs.

Next, Fisher and Company, who, yes are pricey, but feature known brand names like Juicy Couture and Burberry, Lacoste and more. Then there is Lolita, a shop that has unique dresses and nightlife clothing along with fashionable casual clothing.

Now that you are downtown, make sure you venture off the main strip for lots of one-of-a-kind shops the rest of the city has to offer. Different places like Frilly Lizard, on Talbot Street, is a staple for finding dresses, accessories and trendy casual clothes that can't be found at the mall. Right next door, at 360 Talbot Street, Commander Salamander is probably the most unique store in the downtown core. On one side of the store they have clothing, with t-shirts that have Johnny Depp on them, as well as other retro T's and the ‘60s inspired dresses are beyond cute. On the other side of the store features accessories and old school Hollywood merchandise. I am a huge fan of the Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe memorabilia, which they stock, and Commander Salamander offers unique Brand names like ‘Emily the Strange”, “Kirsten Ferrell” and “Sailor Jerry” just to name a few. I really can't say enough about that store. I find that most stores downtown have a better selection of spring and summer clothing, rather than the winter selection.

Everyone plan a weekend afternoon and spend time walking on Richmond Row and make sure you go into every shop. For more information on the downtown shopping scene visit www.richmondrowlondon.com, which is an awesome website telling you absolutely everything you'll want to know.
