As Spicy as ever in the fashion dept

I am one of the lucky people who witnessed history in the making. After a six-year hiatus, the Spice Girls reunited and I was there. It was amazing to see my childhood icons, twice actually, at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto (February 3, 4), that's how much of a fan I am.

To start off my fashion critiquing, I must say the crowd, which was 95 per cent girls, were dressed to the ‘T.' I never really understood the whole point of dressing up when going to the concert, but it's always entertaining to see. There was a girl there who had the British flag dress, which was almost identical to the one that Geri Halliwell is known for wearing, sparkles and all. There were girls jumping around with six-inch stilettos, girls with their hair professionally done to girls decked out in spice girl merchandise. I had my customized POSH t-shirt that I made on their official website (www.thespicegirls.com).

The Show was just amazing! Even if for some reason you do not like the Spice Girls, you would be entertained to the fullest. The concert had almost a futuristic vibe to it and the Spice Girls once again raised the bar in terms of entertainment.

Fashionably speaking, the Spice Girls wardrobe was phenomenal. The ever-popular Italian designer Roberto Cavalli, who is known for making women look sexy, captured each Spice Girl's spirit and personality. Each Spice had five or six wardrobe changes; all outfits were coordinated to the different themes. Cavalli was said to have sat down and talked to each girl to see what inspiration he could get from them to create their unique glamorous costume.

He sums up each spice and the theme he had in mind for each:

POSH- “fashion icon”
BABY-‘sweet and sensual”
GINGER-‘flamboyantly sexy”
SCAREY-“sexy and confident”
SPORTY-“athletic and glamorous”

Each costume creation is used with lavish materials, such as Swarovski crystals, feathers and leather.

The Spice Girls official website offers behind the scenes beauty and hair tips. The make- up artists and hairstylists give their secrets on how you can get the each Spice's do.

From head to toe the Spice Girls were flawless. From the diamonds on the microphones, to the body and hair glitter, to Posh's sparkly fingerless gloves, to Mel C's crystal sneakers, Ginger's six-pack abs, Baby's golden locks and to Scarey's show stopping personality, it was a show every fan should have been able to see.

On Saturday I attended the fifth annual INFUSION Fashion Show, which benefited young cancer survivors. The show was packed with entertainment such as dancers, models, MTV TV host and comedian Gilson Lubin and rapper OMARION. There was not that much fashion involved, a few young designers showcased an outfit or two, but most of the runway clothing was donated from stores found in our local malls, such as Athletes World, Bud Gowan and Bikini Village.
