Go blue or go bald?

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southwestern Ontario is hoping that Fanshawe students will go blue and go bald- all for a good cause.

The program, which the foundation started last year is based on asking volunteers to dye their hair blue and raise money from supporters before shaving it all off. But the organizers of the Fanshawe portion of the event have taken the idea and given it a little twist.

“We're trying to work with the idea of being a student,” said Chris Brittain, a corporate communications and public relations student at Fanshawe who's one of the people spearheading the FunShave event.

“The Go Blue Go Bald campaign works so well because it's a dare factor with the whole idea that you dye your hair the most ridiculous bright blue colour you can think of and get people to donate to your venture.

But ours, FunShave, is a little different because the students can shave their legs, beards or armpits because it's really all about the embarrassment factor. You dye your hair blue then tell your friends that you'll shave it off, and they can pay to see it.”

Last years fundraising event raised more than $86,000 in London and the organizers are hoping that the college, and community's, help they'll be able to reach their target of $100,000 for Make-A-Wish.

Students who are interested in participating can go to The Fringe on campus to get their hair dyed or pick up the dye package or visit www.makeawish.ca/gobluegobald.

D-day for the shaving is March 7 and will take place in Forwell Hall between 12 and 2 p.m.
