Esteemed actors shine in No Country for Old Men

No Country For Old Men

With its interesting plot, big actors and explosive action, this movie puts a surprising twist on the action genre.

Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) is a simple man. A war veteran now retired, married and living in a trailer park. When he stumbles across a brutal massacre and finds a satchel full of money, he jumps at the chance for a better life. However, taking the money turns out to be the worst decision he has ever made. As he is being hunted down by Mexicans, the police and a psychopathic killing machine, Llewelyn is forced to send his wife into hiding at her mother's house and go on the run.

Sheriff Ed Tom Bell (Tommy Lee Jones) is an older generation of law enforcement. He comes from a long line of sheriffs and holds the same ideals as his father and grandfather did before him. As a small town Sheriff, he is overwhelmed after the discovery of the horrific slayings, having a killer on the loose and being brought in to help bring Llewelyn home safely.

Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem) is the psychopathic killer. He is involved in a drug deal with the Mexicans when something goes horribly wrong and everyone dies and the money goes missing. After being arrested, killing a deputy to escape and killing an innocent man for his car, Anton's goal is to track down the man who stole his money, by any means necessary. It becomes clear very quickly that death does not phase Anton at all. In fact it seems that he is lacking a conscience all together.

I liked this movie a lot. It is very different from any other movie I have seen before. The storyline was very interesting and I really liked how all of the main characters were intertwined. While the movie wasn't filled with obvious excitement, it still kept you glued to your seat. One aspect of the movie that really stood out to me was that there was no music in the movie whatsoever. Usually, we count on the music in a movie to heighten suspense and guide us through a scene. However, in No Country For Old Men you are left to feel your own emotions to the situation. In a way this makes the scenes more suspenseful because it is like you are there in the movie, just waiting for an attack.

Josh Brolin (Grindhouse) and Tommy Lee Jones (Men in Black), both were amazing in this movie and really added to its depth. Javier Bardem (Love in the Time of Cholera) was also incredible. He was smart, mysterious and insane, all at the same time. His performance in this movie could possibly get him an Oscar nod. I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a good action movie with suspense and that is very different from other movies.

Final Words: Saw it. Liked it. I got it at the gettin' place.
