MLB DVD set a treat for diehards

Major League Baseball, in association with Galaxy Home Video, is pleased to announce the release of the critically acclaimed 132nd season of the popular series “Major League Baseball” on DVD.

“This is a glorious day for baseball fans,” declared MLB commissioner Bud Selig. “There are many fans out there who were only able to catch an occasional game here or there during the regular season, and maybe a few playoff games. With the release of ‘Major League Baseball Season 132,' it's like having season tickets for your favourite baseball team, and the other 29 teams as well.”

Containing 1,240 discs, and a whopping 7,300 hours of footage, “Major League Baseball Season 132” is believed to be the biggest box set ever released. The entire 2007 schedule of 2,431 regular season games, 28 playoff games and the All-Star game is included in the set. Also included are 15 discs of extras, also believed to be a record.

“Season 3 of ‘Blossom' came with 13 discs of extras, and we are proud to say that we topped that,” said Selig.

Among the other special features found on “Major League Baseball Season 132” are:
- Alternate commentary available for every game by Joe Buck and Tim McCarver, even on those games they already provided commentary for.
- “Race to Immortality,” a four hour feature documenting Craig Biggio's failed bid to set the career record for the most times being hit by a pitch. Relive each of the 282 at-bats in which Biggio was hit by a pitch, all digitally re-mastered with 5.1 Surround Sound.
- Alternate ending to episode #132-2387 titled “Barry Goes Deep,” in which Barry Bonds becomes baseball's all-time homerun leader...or does he?

Selig believes the set will be most popular with unemployed, retired and infant baseball fans, all of whom have a great deal of time on their hands. Providing you did not stop to sleep, prepare meals or bathe, it would still take over 304 days to make it through the set.

“We at Major League Baseball are very pleased with the sheer size of this boxed set,” proclaimed Selig. “While we received positive feedback about last year's Season 131 release, others were disappointed with the running time of less than 6800 hours. That won't be a problem this year — it's almost like we injected last year's release with some sort of growth hormone.”

The set weighs approximately 125 kilograms, and contains a warning label that recommends only moving the set with the assistance of an able bodied adult between the ages of 16 and 55.

There is expected to be a shortage of available copies at some retailers, due to the incredible amount of shelf space the set occupies.

If you can't track it down at your local retailer, you can also purchase the set on MLB.com for only $4,499.99. This is a very reasonable price considering how much it would have cost to attend every single game. Shipping to Canada is an extra $287.50.

Selig also announced plans to release “Major League Baseball Season 132 — Armoire Edition” which not only contains all footage found on the collector's edition, but also every pre-season game. This edition will come with a Victorian oak armoire, which you can use to store the set. This version will retail for $6,295.99.
