Around the Ring: Wrestling crackdown

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse for WWE after my last article, it seems like more crap has hit the fan — on high speed.

Let's take a look at SummerSlam first. This was supposed to be one of WWE's main PPVs of the year. Unfortunately they blew it big time. The show really wasn't much to watch because it seemed like a glorified Monday Night Raw! There were no surprises, there were no title changes. NOTHING HAPPENED. The comeback kids, Rey Mysterio and HHH, both won their matches (I thought one of them would have lost somehow to keep some heat going) and Cena pulled off another victory. Do you know why? I don't. I'm guessing that they're in love with selling too much Cena merchandise to kids and women to care what the majority of the arena thinks.

The Raw after wasn't too much better setting up storylines. Usually the Monday night after SummerSlam, you get things in motion for the Survivor Series and set up new feuds! What did we get? More Cena. More Cody Rhodes beating guys he has no business beating. A boring HHH promo. Yawn.

Oh, let's not forget about the most recent stuff. Eugene and Cryme Time were let go and the WWE has “suspended” 11 of their superstars for failing the “wellness program.” They didn't release the names, but you're starting to see who's in the doghouse. Umaga, the most indestructible man on Raw (unless he's fighting Cena) lost the IC Title to Jeff Hardy who just came back from a suspension then he was left a bloody mess by HHH.

Randy Orton's promo was taped, Shelton Benjamin got clearly pinned to offset and chance of him and Haas running for the belts for a while and on the ECW show, John Morrison finally got beat by CM Punk, so you won't be seeing him for awhile either. As Raw and Smackdown lead up to the next PPV and do their shows, we should be finding out who else got “caught.”

With all that being said, Monday's Raw was actually quite entertaining. Maybe this scandal has them waking up. I still have no clue who Vince's “bastard” kid is. We got the clue that “things are looking up.” Who does that link to? It's kind of disappointing that Mr. Kennedy wasn't the one chosen because after a few of the meetings between the two men, this could have made for some good TV.
