Grindhouse takes gore, nudity, to an hilariously new level

Blood, gore, sex, vulgar comedic dialogue and a woman with a machine-gun for a leg.

What more would you expect from a double feature film by directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez?

Grindhouse, the latest project by Tarantino and Rodriguez consists of two feature films, Planet Terror by Rodriguez and Death Proof by Tarantino, sandwiching several mock movie trailers in between the two films.

Following in the tradition of theatres in the 1970's, which only played exploitation film genres that did not necessarily have quality acting included, Grindhouse delivers an entertaining array of action and dialogue that are typical to films by Rodriguez and Tarantino.

Planet Terror, a zombie film, is loaded with blood, guts, pus and many other putrid cinematic items.

The acting is very entertaining, as many of the actors do a great job at ‘acting' like the people in the 70's movies, who were in that time noticeably untalented.

The highlight of Planet Terror is when Rose McGowan's character replaces her wooden leg with a heavy-artillery gun and subsequently goes on a trigger-happy zombie-killing rampage.

Death Proof had the better concept and story in my opinion, and included some patented Tarantino dialogue. However the middle of the movie may have had a bit too much dialogue, and not enough action. Maybe I was just craving more screenplay for the actual death-proof vehicle in the film.

The car chase at the end of the film is classic, and can be claimed as the greatest car chase I have seen in a film in recent memory.

The most entertaining/shocking part of the double feature experience was the fake movie trailers, shown between the features. The commercial-like vignettes had the entire audience laughing hysterically one minute and gasping in shock in the next.

Sex is an underlying theme in the films. While the majority of dialogue in Death Proof involves some form of sexual connotation, the sex scenes and nudity are up front and aggressive in Planet Terror.

Overall I enjoyed both films. Some word of advice however, do not go into this film thinking you are going to witness the next Pulp Fiction or Sin City, this film cannot be put on that level I don't believe.

But for what this movie is, following the concept of the 70's grind houses, I was thoroughly entertained for the three hours it took to watch it and impressed by the fact that both Rodriguez and Tarantino obviously had a lot of fun creating these films.
