United States - President George W. Bush recently said that the US is taking very seriously the ruling by the Supreme Court that the Environmental Protection Agency must regulate greenhouse gas emissions from automobiles causing pollution. Bush said the regulations must not hinder the economic growth of the US and the increased emissions from developing countries like China or India should not be ignored in the regulations as well.

Solomon Islands - Thousands of people are homeless, several people are missing and 32 people are dead after three earthquakes shook the small country northeast of Australia. The first two earthquakes created a 30-foot tsunami that subsequently flooded the towns of Gizo and Noro. A spokesperson with the Solomon island government said over 5000 people are homeless and are in dire need of food, shelter, and water.

Iran - Iranian and British officials are butting heads in a potential prisoner swap. Although both countries deny such, an Iranian diplomat Jalai Sharafi was released by Baghdad officials in Iraq after spending two months in custody. Currently, Iranian officials are holding 15 British marines and sailors captive after the crew, according to Iran officials, were caught in Iranian waters. British PM Tony Blair said he wants the issue to be resolved and is demanding that marines and sailors be released.
