Sports in Seconds: Intramural sports a great alternative

One way for former athletes to get the competitive juices flowing again is to participate in intramural sports.

By former athlete, I mean someone who came to college and previously competed in varsity sports all throughout high school, and have subsequently left the commitment of sports behind to concentrate on their studies or become more engaged in other activities associated with College culture.

There is no problem with the two latter choices for students, however that burning desire for competition, and that drive to succeed in any given sport, will never leave an athlete and consequently that person always needs his/her competitive fix.

Participating in intramural sports is a great way for athletes to get that fix right on campus.

Having competed this year in Co-Ed Football and Co-Ed Basketball, I realized that the inner athlete in me still wants to compete in athletics, despite the fact that I cannot run and jump at the same level as I could when I was 16.

Intramural sports are a great forum for people to still engage in serious athletic competition while at the same time doing so in a fun and more laid back fashion.

When our team, “The Bangers” won the Co-Ed football championship this year, it was a very fun experience and it was a proud moment for our team, which consisted of many of my co-workers in the Interrobang office.

However, when our team got ousted in the Co-Ed 3-on-3 basketball playoffs a couple weeks ago, it was a bit disappointing, but we still could look back at it as a fun experience and we did not loath in defeat for more than a couple minutes.

The combination of fun and competitiveness are what makes intramural sports a great choice for athletes and former athletes a like.
